Trump Threats to close the border with Mexico news by Hebei Longsheng
| President Donald Trump appears to moderated his threats to close the border with Mexico, though he also stated "security is more important to me than trade". Much of the short-term risk to supply chains from slower trucking is focused on the agricultural and automotive supply chains, though these only represent 19.8% of Mexico’s $279.9 billion of truckborne exports to the U.S. in the 12 months to Feb. 28. The electronics industry also faces significant risks, particularly given the rapid product cycles and just-in-time supply chain strategies used. Mexican exports of computers by truck – led by Foxconn, Wistron, Inventec and IBM – reached $26.0 billion in the past 12 months. That followed an increase of 23.4% year over year in the three months to Feb. 28. Shipments of telecoms equipment worth $11.5 billion were led by Flextronics and Jabil Circuit. Exports of medical devices, which are arguably more sensitive in terms of delivery reliability requirements, were worth $7.3 billion and included shipments by Johnson & Johnson and Cardinal Health. |
